We support self-builders with Batchrocket mass heaters: low wood use, high comfort, and timeless finishes.
We work with people in Portugal and abroad who want to build their own Batchrocket heater. With clear design, the right materials, and step-by-step guidance, you can heat your home sustainably. More than 40 stoves have been realised with our support in the last 7 years.
Batchrocket mass heaters combine high performance with sustainability. They burn small amounts of wood at very high temperatures, ensuring clean combustion with minimal smoke. The masonry stores the heat and releases it slowly, giving steady radiant warmth long after the fire has gone out.
Very little wood is needed — often two to three small firings for a full day of warmth.
Less fuel use means lower heating bills and fewer trees cut.
Gentle, even radiant warmth without drying the air.
Calculated for your space, insulation, and lifestyle — not too much, not too little.
Refined clay plaster or an industrial look with stone/steel — shape the finish to your taste.
Clear instructions and responsive support for capable self-builders.
Remote design and PDF guidance make it possible wherever you are.
We build different models depending on space size, insulation, and required output. It’s not about choosing a favourite — the right model is determined by calculation. We recommend a quick heat-loss check.
Compact and efficient for smaller, well-insulated spaces.
Balanced in scale and output for many homes.
Higher output for larger rooms or less insulated homes.
We always confirm sizing with a calculation before building.
One-to-one guidance to answer questions and steer your build.
Tailored SketchUp layouts that clarify the structure and fit your space.
Guidance and, where possible, hands-on help with the firebox core.
Assistance sourcing firebricks, doors, and air channels.
Clear, layer-by-layer PDF instructions to follow during construction.
Learn in Portugal or online, individually or in groups.
An initial conversation to confirm whether a self-build is right for you.
We size the core, design the mass/bench, and help source parts.
You build with clear instructions; we support on-site (PT) or remotely (abroad).
“The 180 sidewinder warms our whole living space. One or two firings keep it comfortable all day.”
“The PDF made sizing clear, and the support during the build gave me confidence.”

This method is based on work by Yasin Gach (uzume.fr) and the original spreadsheet (batchrocket.eu). It estimates heat losses from volume, insulation coefficient, and temperature difference, compared with indicative model outputs.
We are a Portugal-based team working locally and internationally. Floris has designed and built 40+ heaters in 7 years. Lotte supports communications and community. We collaborate with local craftspeople for stone and steel work. Our aim is to empower people to build with confidence through clear design and practical support.
No, our designs do not include domestic hot water or radiators.
Primarily for one main space; in some cases it can warm adjacent rooms or floors.
We provide design, support, and guidance. Core help is possible in Portugal; remote support abroad.
It depends on size and finishes. The free PDF is a clear starting point.
